Justin Houston, a proud Berkeley Preparatory School alumnus, embarked on his career in education at Berkeley in 2004. A native of Tampa, Florida, Justin holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, both from the University of South Florida.
Currently serving as the Director of Auxiliary Operations, Justin also leads as the Head Coach for Middle Division Football and Varsity Girls Flag Football. He takes immense pride in being a parent to three children, all of whom are enrolled at Berkeley.
Director of Sports Camps at Berkeley Summer Programs
Josh Beckwith has been the Director of Sports Camps at Berkeley Summer Programs since 2011. He is a graduate of Seminole High School, where he was an All-American swimmer and team captain. He graduated from Emory University, where he captained the swim team, and holds a master’s degree in Elementary Education, K-8, from Vanderbilt University. Beckwith has 12 years of swim coaching experience, including four years with Berkeley’s Varsity Swimming & Diving Team. He coached Berkeley’s Middle Division Girls Soccer Team for 14 years and has been a Middle Division Global Studies Teacher at Berkeley since 2006. Beckwith also serves as the Sixth Grade Academic Dean. He has been a teacher for 26 years, five of which were spent in Japan.
SARAH BOOR
Director of ACES at Berkeley Summer Programs
Sarah Boor earned her undergraduate degree in Marine Biology from Rollins College, where her passion for education first emerged during an internship at Sanibel Sea School. Inspired to pursue teaching, she began her career in Bethesda, MD, teaching science for five years while earning a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The George Washington University. After returning to her home state of Florida, Sarah started teaching Middle Division Science at Berkeley Preparatory School in 2018. She is deeply committed to the Buccaneer community, contributing outside the classroom as a volleyball coach, leader of the new faculty mentoring program, organizer of sixth-grade community service initiatives, and an academic coach. Sarah is thrilled to embark on her next adventure with Summer Programs through ACES, where she looks forward to inspiring students and continuing to make a positive impact.
SHAYNA GOODMAN ’16
Director of the Summer Arts Institute at Berkeley Summer Programs
Shayna Goodman is a proud alumna who is thrilled to be back at her alma mater as the Director of Artists of Tomorrow and, during the school year, the Lower Division Theatre Teacher. Goodman earned a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Florida State University and an M.S. in Education from John’s Hopkins University. She is so happy to be able to combine her love for the arts with her passion for childhood development and education. She is dedicated to providing a rich and engaging experience for all participants and helping students foster their artistic and intellectual growth.
MICHELE MCKENNA
Director of Summer of Excellence at Berkeley Summer Programs
Michele McKenna joined the Berkeley faculty in 2005 and has been a Summer Programs faculty member since 2006. She is the Summer of Excellence director and currently teaches in the Pagidipati Center for Science, Engineering, and Technology (P-SET) at Berkeley. Michele has also worked in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, the learning center, and as a member of the technology team. She has presented on using technology effectively in the classroom at the Future of Education and Technology Conference, the Florida Council of Independent Schools annual conference, and the Florida Kindergarten Council annual conference. She is a Florida native, a graduate of Leto High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. Her son, Brandon, graduated from Berkeley in 2017, having been a student at Berkeley since pre-kindergarten.
ANDREA SMITH
Berkeley Summer Programs Associate
Andrea Smith is excited for this summer! She and her family moved to Tampa in 2022 when she began working in Berkeley’s Business Office. In 2024, she accepted her role in Summer Programs and quickly realized this is where she was meant to be. She loves meeting campers, volunteers and their families and helping them make fun and lasting summer memories. Andrea enjoys living where it is summer year-round and can’t believe she gets paid to go to camp every day!
